First Day Training

Just a quick update today as I’ve been training on Red Hat Enterprise Linux ( Red Hat ). I’m sure you don’t want to know the real techy stuff, so I’ll just keep it light . . .

I was collected at the hotel this morning and taken to the training centre. It’s in the heart of a residential area, but well appointed once inside. After the initial registration paperwork, where I was introduced to my fellow course-mates, both from Saudi Arabia and working in IT security. It was interesting to chat with them about computer security and forensics.

It was soon on with the course and I was introduced to our trainer who took us through an outline of the Red Hat certification program before starting the technical training proper with an introduction to Linux commands which took the remainder of the day. A lot of this was revision for me, but there were still a few useful nuggets of information that were new to me and made it worthwhile. Whilst it was mostly going over ol;d ground for me it was covered at a prodigious rate, so I’m sure there are testing times ahead when we come on to stuff that is new to me!

Lunch was taken in a local restaurant and was very enjoyable (I had a fish biryaini at my host’s suggestion).

I leave you with a picture of my bedtime reading for the next couple of weeks:

  1. Hi Chris, glad you got there safely and all that – forgot what day it was – wanted to wish you bon voyage! I have read somewhere that in India it is a good habit to wash your hands regularly particularly after contact with anything else anyone has touched, or after shaking hands – looks a bit rude doesn’t it, wiping your hands on your shirt after shaking someones hand (!!!) But ‘you just don’t know where they’ve been!’. Sounds like a good opportunity to do some networking too. So happy days, have fun, see you when you’re back.

  2. Hi Chris!
Hope you found the training stepped-up a notch – or 5 – today and that the old grey matter is beginning to be challenged more than on your first day. You’re not there to have fun you know 😉 tehehe! I am loving your bedtime reading too – it should definitely help you sleep. :-) Enjoy it all Chris, sounds like you’re having a really great time. Fabulous!!! :-) Hxx

Training has stepped up a notch, we covered logical volume management yesterday. Have done a bit of it before but not from the command line, so that was all new and challenging. You’re quite right; I’m having no problems sleeping!
