Another Trip Approaches

In less than three days I’ll be boarding a plane for India. I’ll be there for a little over a month. The first two weeks will be work related as I’m doing a software certification course. After that I’ll have two weeks to do as I wish.

I’d like to hire a motorcycle (Royal Enfield I guess in India!), but it’s monsoon season out there at the moment, so I don’t know whether a motorcycle ride is practical or not, never having experienced a monsoon before, so I’ll play it by ear and decide once I’m there. I’m taking the gear just in case though! If I do hire the bike I’d like to go and find the village where my son, Adam, did his volunteer work.

Who knows what the next month will bring?

An ‘Electric’ Race

There were three races scheduled for Wednesday: The TT Zero (for ‘alternative fuel’ powered bikes, ie bikes powered by electricity), the Supersport Race 2 and the Sidecar Race 2. The weather was again perfect for racing and there were some good results. Tony Rutter just stole a win in the TT Zero, pipping John McGuinness to the post by 1.3 seconds. Michael Dunlop won his FOURTH victory in the Supersport and The Birchall brothers won their first TT in the Sidecar race. I was so pleased to see them win, they deserve it!

Thursday was a chill out day, a time to catch up on some shopping and general Island sight seeing. Continue reading

Racing and Crawling

Monday was another race day, with the Supersport race 1 and the Superstock races run. Both races ran as as scheduled and Michael Dunlop won both, bringing his total to three wins from three starts. Not bad going! In previous years Michael’s riding style has been very ragged. He was certainly quick, but looked out of control most of the time. This year he seemed a lot smoother, possibly because of his involvement with the Honda Legends team. Whatever the reason, it certainly seems to have paid off! Continue reading

Where Did the Week Go?

I don’t know where the week has gone! I seem to have been on the go non-stop and I still haven’t done all of the things I wanted to do! I’ll have to play ‘catch up’ with blog posts and will have to do it over several posts. I’m going to have to try very hard to remember all of the things that I’ve done, but the pictures should help! Continue reading

I Did Go Up the Mountain

Well I did make it up the 2036 feet of the mountain (Snaefell), it was a brilliantly sunny morning in Port Erin, but was foggy on the mountain.I didn’t spend too long on the top, catching the first tram down after I arrived because I couldn’t see more than 50 yards. It is said that on a clear day you can see seven kingdoms from the summit: Isle of Man, England, Ireland, Scotland, Wales, Heaven and the Sea. I could only see a very small part of the Isle of Man! Practice at Last!

We finally got a full practice session in good weather with a dry track, WOOOO HOOOO! About time! The big bikes came out to play and John McGuiness banged in a 129 mph lap on his second time around. Bruce Anstey also put in a 129 mph lap. Good going for the first time out on the superbikes! Moly \ Farrance and Reeves \ Sayle both did 113 mph laps in the side-cars. Even better news is that the weather forecast is now good for then remainder of the festival so, if the weather men have got it right we’re in for some great racing. Continue reading

Initial Ramblings

Welcome to TT 2013. Due to the nature of the TT I’m not going to promise regular blog updates, but will blog when I can!

I’ve been here since Saturday evening (It’s now Tuesday) and not only has it been the usual TT whirlwind since I got here, the week before departure was also a whirlwind. The day before departure was my last day at work and I was out every evening except Tuesday and Wednesday, so it was fun trying to get everything organised in time. As I needed to be off at 6.30 am the following day I made sure I was back very early on Friday evening for the final packing and an early night. Continue reading

Homeward Bound

After a good breakfast at the hotel I checked out and headed for down-town Abbeville to see what was happening. I soon found out: Nothing! everywhere was closed due to it being Easter Monday. Even the church was locked up! I thought that at least the church would be open on Easter Monday! I took a few photos and decided to head off to Calais early as I saw no point in wandering around empty streets looking at shuttered shops. I knew that Cite Europe was open and I wanted to pop in to get a few last minute presents and some food for supper. Continue reading

Time for reflection

I woke up feeling fit, well and rested after yesterdays general feeling of unwellness (yes that is a neologism!). The weather was dry, cold and foggy and that was good enough for me! A quick continental breakfast and I was on my way; an hour later than expected as the clocks had changed overnight unbeknown to me. Fortunately not unbeknown to my modern gizmos (eg mobile ‘phone), so they put me on the straight an narrow! The hotel was but minutes away from the Autoroute, so I pointed the bike north and dialled a suitable speed. Continue reading
